On behalf of Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, I would like to express my deep appreciation for your support.
Your purchase of season subscriptions, tickets and additional generous tax-deductible contributions play a pivotal role in upholding our mission to produce professional musical theatre to bring joy to our community.
Your invaluable support breathes life into our vision and ensures its enduring presence for years to come.
As we celebrate the close of our 56th season I want to share some exciting details:
The performing arts industry as a whole is facing an unprecedented crisis.
Each week across our nation, 2-3 theatres close their doors.
We, too, have felt the sting of escalating inflation and are striving to keep the magic of professional musical theatre alive in our community.
Your generous gifts make all the difference.
It helps us weather this storm and continue to inspire, entertain, and bring joy to our audiences.
Please help us ensure that the curtain doesn't fall on the rich tradition of musical theatre at CDA Summer Theatre.
Every contribution matters and is appreciated, no matter the size.
And most importantly, your tax-deductible contributions are well stewarded.
We have extensive financial oversight and accountability through our professional board of directors and finance & audit committee.
Together, we can continue sharing the joy of professional musical theatre for decades to come.

Cash is always welcome and can be utilized immediately. But, before removing cash from your bank account, there are a few other common ways to make a charitable gift. One might look at making a gift from their IRA (must be at least age 70.5), appreciated stock or real estate - just to mention a few.
1. IRA Charitable Rollover – This type of gift is also referred to as a Qualified Charitable Distribution by the IRS. Whether you itemize your deductions or not, this is an excellent way of reducing your net taxable income. A donor must be at least age 70 ½ and this type of gift will reduce your minimum distributions requirement. Additional rules include a limitation in 2023 of $100,000.00 per donor, and in 2024 this limitation will rise to $105,000.00. Remember, the funds must go directly from your IRA to your favorite charity and not through you.
2. Gift of Stock – Believe it or not, overall 2023 has been, so far, a positive year in much of the stock market. A charitable deduction of this type of a gift is based on the market value at the time of the gift. So, instead of selling your stock (i.e., could create a taxable gain on your income tax returns) simply transfer your stock to your favorite charity. This will produce a charitable tax deduction based on your stock’s market value at the time of transfer.
3. Gift of Real Estate – Since most real estate has increased in value over the years, a gift of real estate should be considered. The IRS considers a gift of real estate different from a gift of cash. A gift of real estate is limited to 30% of your adjusted gross income (AGI) each year – with a five-year carryover. Again, instead of selling the real estate (i.e., producing a taxable capital gain) simply make a gift of real estate and thereafter report the market value of the gift on your tax returns. If you have used accelerated depreciation, then an additional review is in order.
Just a reminder, cash contributions to charities in 2023 have a limit of up to 60% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). Therefore, if your AGI is $50,000.00 then you can deduct up to $30,000.00 in charitable cash contributions in 2023 – with a five-year carryover. We also suggest you consult with your tax advisor when considering these types of gifts.
In summary, there are a number of ways to make charitable gifts. I thought I would provide information on the most common. If you would like to discuss with us these types of gifts and any others, please contact Chuck Ethridge at 208-254-0504 or info@cdasummertheatre.com
